Animation across the CurriculumThis workshop begins with an introductory presentation on using a variety of animation techniques to foster higher-order thinking skills, address standards, and make cross-curricular connections. A showcase of sample projects demonstrates how stop-motion, illustrated, and chroma key animation can be integrated into a variety of grade levels and curriculum areas and specifically how it can be used to enhance 21st century communication skills skills. The presentation concludes with a discussion of the process of making animation with students using drawing tools, digital images, time lapse, claymation, and chroma key.
Participants then assume the role of students as they complete the process on their own. They will choose a classroom curriculum topic, and plan their project with a vision and storyboard. Once the storyboard has been approved, they will work to develop their own animation using one of the techniques learned in the workshop (illustrated, digital image, chroma key). Participants will learn to combine text, music, narration, transitions, and more to see how these features can be used to expand literacy and communication skills. Participants will explore online resources that will help them successfully integrate animation into their classroom, including project ideas, training materials, student samples, and more. Digital Cameras and Advanced Image EditingThis workshop begins with an introductory presentation that showcases examples of how digital cameras and digital imaging can be used in a variety of different projects to meet content learning goals. Participants will explore the basic features of their digital cameras (or cameras provided by Tech4Learning for use during the workshop). After learning the basics of taking pictures, setting resolution, and using the self-timer and flash, participants will go on a scavenger hunt to capture images of specific items. The scavenger hunt is designed to give participants experience using the different features of the camera as they develop ideas for having their students use digital cameras to showcase their understanding of the world around them and hone their skills as visual communicators.
Participants will learn to transfer images from the camera to the computer and will work with ImageBlender software to edit each image to meet a different project and learning goal. They will gain an understanding of image resolution and how it affects printing, on-screen display, download time, and more. Participants will work with different image file formats to learn the benefits of each, acquiring knowledge they can apply in their classrooms so that they are able to choose the most appropriate format for a given classroom task. They will learn to apply filters to their images, add and manipulate layers, label with text, and more. Participants will explore online resources that will help them successfully integrate image editing into their classroom, including project ideas, training materials, student samples, and more. The focus of the Digital Cameras and Advanced Image Editing workshop is to get instructors comfortable with the basics of using a digital camera, to learn to identify when it is effective to use in their classrooms, and to demonstrate how they can use digital imaging techniques in ImageBlender to enhance their images and extend image editing into the classroom. |
