Stop Motion Magic

Description
Learn how to make your own animated movies to demonstrate science processes and tell stories.

Participants will learn to use Twist to create and export scalable vector art. They will learn to use Frames to combine the images they create in Twist with text, titles, music, and narration.

This workshop is designed for educators working with students in all grade levels (K-12).

Goal
Learn how to use animation to engage and motivate students to create compelling projects which meet curriculum standards.

Outcomes

explore how animation addresses multiple intelligences
develop skills to help students use Twist and Frames
leave ready to integrate animation into your classroom

Software Skills
Participants will gain experience with Frames and Twist, learning how to:

draw shapes and change curves to create images
save and export illustrations for use in animation
import folders of images, then add text, music, and narration
export movies in a variety of formats.

Timeline
This one-day workshop runs for approximately six hours. During the morning, participants will explore project ideas and learn the basics of Twist and Frames. During the afternoon, participants will create frames for their animation in Twist and combine them into powerful animations in Frames. The day ends with ideas for integration and strategies for implementation.

What is Twist?

Twist helps students easily create vector graphic images. Twist’s straightforward set of tools minimizes the learning curve, allowing students to focus on drawing. Perfect for art projects, designing logos for web sites, or creating frames for animation.

What is Frames?

Frames is a stop-motion animation tool. Students can create stop-motion animated stories using pictures they have taken with photographs they have taken for animation or original artwork they have created in Twist.

Requisite Skills
Basic operating system knowledge, comfort operating a mouse, and skill navigating the hard drive is required to participate in this workshop.
