Pixie: Developing Early Learning Foundations

Participants will learn how to use Pixie to implement creative and engaging projects that empower students to master the curriculum as they build exciting and meaningful classroom projects.
During this workshop, participants will explore strategies for building early learning foundations with engaging activities and challenging projects. Participants will learn how students can use Pixie productivity software (included in the price of the workshop) to explore early literacy topics, math concepts, science processes, and social studies themes. They will also explore open-ended paint and storytelling projects that expand writing and critical thinking skills and are connected with educational research, such as Effective Teaching Strategies by Robert Marzano.

  • Explore and develop activities that meet primary and elementary curriculum goals.
  • Learn how to apply visual literacy strategies into the curriculum to engage a wide range of learners.
  • Explore resources for implementing student technology projects- including ideas, techniques, examples, and lesson plans.

  • Curriculum Integration – identify and plan curriculum integration opportunities for using Pixie in their classroom curriculum.
  • Lesson Design – collaborate with peers on the design of activities and projects specific to the needs of your classroom.
  • Software Skills – identify software features that can enhance instruction and support classroom learning.
Workshop Timeline
Morning – Exploring the Curriculum with Pixie
Participants will explore ideas and samples for using Pixie to engage students in learning across the curriculum. They will get an introduction to the basic features of this elementary grade creativity tool and gain skills necessary to build and design their own lessons with this powerful tool. They will learn how to engage students and build foundational literacy skills that support a 21st century learning environment.

Afternoon – Creating Activities and Projects
Participants will explore additional effecitve teaching strategies that support their classroom learning goals and will work in collaborative teams to create activities and projects which support their current curriculum. Participants will also explore free online resources for Pixie to further their understanding of integration.

Pricing
$3000 – workshop for up to 20 participants includes full day of training (6 hours), materials, software (50 licenses of Pixie). and all trainer and travel expenses.
Workshop is available without software for sites who already own Pixie at a cost of $2500.
