Turn the Background Color Off

By default, when you begin a new canvas, the background is white. You can turn the background color off.

Open a new image and paint on the canvas.

Go to the Image menu, choose Background, and select Off.

The background color, currently white, will turn off.

Even if you don't turn the background color, you can still export images with transparent backgrounds, such as GIFs and PNGs, by using the options at the Export dialog.
